AYSO Philosophy
EVERYONE PLAYS®
We want kids to play soccer - so we mandate that every player on every team must play at least half of every game. Additionally, no player shall play an entire game unless all other players have played three quarters. Furthermore, no player shall sit out two consecutive quarters. Every player shall, at a minimum, "start" every other game.
BALANCED TEAMS
At the start of each season we to set up teams as evenly as possible. It's more fun when teams are of equal ability.
OPEN REGISTRATION
Our program is open to all children ages 4 (as of Sep. 1) - 18 who want to play soccer. Interest and enthusiasm are the only requirements for playing.
POSITIVE COACHING
We train and encourage our coaches to make the extra effort to understand and offer positive help to our players, rather than use negative criticism. This approach builds a positive team spirit.
GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP
We create a positive environment based upon mutual respect, rather than a "win-at-all-costs" attitude. All of our programs are designed to instill good sportsmanship in our kids and our volunteers.
Player Development
We believe that all players should be able to develop their soccer skills and knowledge to the best of their abilities, both individually and as members of a team, in order to maximize their enjoyment of the game
More On Sportsmanship
Sportsmanship seems to be one of the first "hot topics" of the new millennium. Sportsmanship isn’t the next new fad at AYSO. It is one of the five philosophies upon which AYSO was founded.
We discussed the merit of mandatory meetings for parents. We discussed the merits of a "Silent Sunday". While these ideas sounded good, we felt that implementing these plans would be akin to using a hammer to kill a gnat. Most parents understand both the necessity and spirit of sportsmanship.
Please help us keep the game fun for the kids. Our behavior is a beacon of light which our children will follow. Help the kids. Set a good example. Choose to make your beacon a guiding light.
To help us all with this, with the Fall 2002 season, we have adopted a new program called Kids Zone. This program has three elements that all together will heighten the awareness of good side line behavior and set an example for our kids.
Daddy, What’s a Green Card?
Deerfield AYSO has instituted the "Green Card" system to handle spectators who forget that the game is for the kids. Referees are instructed to issue Green Cards to spectators who choose to behave inappropriately. The card reads as follows:
"According to the FIFA Laws of the Game...(Law V-d), the referee may stop, suspend, or terminate the match because of outside interference of any kind.
YOUR ACTIONS HAVE PUT THIS EVENT IN JEOPARDY. STOP OR THE LAW WILL BE APPLIED.
Please leave the players alone to play THEIR game, not yours! CHEER by all means, but do not instruct or criticize anyone."

Responsible for operating the Region in accordance with AYSO rules, regulations, guidelines, and philosophies.
Assistant Regional Commissioner (ARC)
Assists the Regional Commissioner in operating the Region in accordance with AYSO rules, regulations, guidelines, and philosophies.
Responsible for Region’s financial records and safekeeping of assets.
Regional Coach Administrator (RCA)
Responsible for training, support, and selection of the Region’s coaching staff.
Assistant Regional Coach Administrator (aRCA)
Assists the Coach Administrator with training, support, and selection of the Region’s coaching staff.
Regional Referee Administrator (RRA)
Responsible for training, support, and selection of the Region’s referee staff.
Regional Child and Volunteer Protection Advocate (CVPA)
Responsible for Region’s Safe Haven program.
Responsible for Region’s safety program.
Responsible for player and volunteer registration.
Responsible for minutes of Regional Board meetings.
Responsible for uniform, equipment, and award purchases.
Division Manager Coordinator (DMC)
Responsible for overseeing Division Managers
Responsible for development and oversight of our Very Important Player program that provides kids with special needs the opportunity to play.
Responsible for development and recruitment for all areas of volunteerism.
At-Large Members
Lend support and additional help where/when needed.
