Soccer: A sport where the players actually enjoy

getting hit in the head by a ball.

August 25, 2008

Dear Players, Parents, Volunteers and Visitors:

Your region needs your help. We currently have three board positions open: Regional Referee Administrator, Division Manager Coordinator (coach phone tree coordinator), and Volunteer Coordinator (coordinate registration day volunteers and other small projects). None of these positions require knowledge of soccer; they are more administrative than anything else. The region provides training for each position.

Beyond the board itself we need volunteer help in all sorts of ways.

bullet Each board member should really have at least one assistant, if not more.
bullet We are very low on Referees and could use your help. Most games are less than 1 hour long and are played once per week. We provide the training and a uniform.

If you can step up to help out for a few hours or a few days, this AYSO region can continue to provide the safest, most fun, children’s sports league in the Deerfield Area.

The more people that we have helping the less each and everyone has to do.

Please contact us at INFO@DeerfieldAYSO.org if you can help in any way.

Thank you for your time, the kids do appreciate it.

See you out on the fields

Coaching

 Let The Kids Play
by: Bobby Howe

"Surveys of young players over the last few years have shown that the primary reason for players under 12 dropping out of soccer is that they were not having fun. The secondary reason is that they did not like their coaches.

Both reasons would indicate that those players were not exposed to appropriate playing environments for their age/or ability levels. Too much at too young an age would cause players to become disenchanted with the sport. Too little activity in practice sessions (drills) and games (too many players on the field) would cause players to become bored.

As coaches and administrators of our sport, we must create the environment for players to learn the game at their own pace without the pressure of impossible decision-making or the stress created by parental (adult) influence. We must allow kids to be kids and allow the game to provide their enjoyment.".....................
