Every team is staffed with 1 or more coaches, and the role is considered a Team Coach, a Head Coach, or an Assistant Coach. Safety and appropriate conduct is our first concern. To ensure that the best possible role models for our children are presented, AYSO requires that all coaches (Team, Head, Assistant) complete at least 3 training courses.
You must complete Safe Haven, Concussion Awareness, and the Age Appropriate training.
AYSO's Safe Haven
This is a child and volunteer safety and protection course. It is not sport specific but covers the AYSO philosophy, rules and regulations along with behavior, emergency procedures and much more. This course only needs to be taken one time. This is a 60 minute training.
AYSO's CDC Concussion Awareness
This is a child and volunteer safety and protection course. As concussion awareness is becoming more prevalent in today's sports world, understanding concussions, and steps that can be taken to help avoid them, is critical. This course only needs to be taken one time. This is a 60 minute training.
Age Appropriate Training
This training helps to develop and teach the skills needed to coach children. There are 6 levels, 6U, 8U, 10U, 12U, Intermediate & Advanced. You are required to take the course that is appropriate for the age group that you are coaching. Please note that 5U coaches should take the 6U training. Each training is between 1 - 6 hours.
