FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the dates for the season?
The first game for the fall will be on Sunday, September 7th, and the last game will be on November 5th. Team practices begin the week before, after Labor Day. The Spring season typically starts in early April (after the Deerfield schools' spring break) and runs through early June (typically ends the weekend after dps109 school ends).
How much is registration?
Registration for the 2025/2026 season is $240 plus a non-refundable $25 National AYSO membership fee, for a total of $265.
What is included with registration?
Registration includes both the fall (9 games) and spring (10 games) seasons. It also includes a uniform consisting of a jersey, shorts and socks (used for BOTH seasons), a team picture plaque in the fall and a participation trophy in the spring. Registration fees cover the cost of the professional P2 soccer trainers that we use to help run practices.
Can I play only in the Fall?
Yes! While we unfortunately don't have a way to register for only the fall season, you can choose to not continue in the Spring. In that case we ask that you please let us know if your child will not continue to play by e-mailing us at
[email protected]
. This lets us open up spots for other kids that want to play only in the Spring.
Can I play only in the Spring?
Yes! In early January we open registration for the Spring season. Because our fall teams carry over into the Spring, spots are limited to teams that are not yet completely full. This means that we unfortunately can not always take every player that wants to join for the Spring.
How do I make a friend request?
We do not accept friend requests when making our teams. One of the
core principals of AYSO
is to have balanced teams, which means that teams are created to be as equal in skill level as possible. We make every effort for kids to have an other player from their school on their team when possible.
How are divisions grouped?
Divisions are based on the child's year in school, and we follow an age cutoff of September 1st. More information can be found
here
.
When are games?
Games are on Sunday afternoons at the various parks in Deerfield. The playground program meets at 9am or 10am at Maplewood park, and the 5U program games are at 12pm, 1pm, 2pm or 3pm at Maplewood park. For 6U-12U games will be at 1:00, 2:15 or 3:30. 14U games are inter-regional, and are sometimes played in other nearby by suburbs.
When will I get the detailed game schedule?
The final game schedule is released about 1 week before the season begins. The game schedule is final, and we can not change or re-schedule any games.
When are practices?
For 8U and older, there is one weekly team practice. The volunteer coaches will set the time of the team practice at the beginning of the season, and they are typically on weekday afternoons/evenings after 4:30. Some teams practice on Saturdays.
When will I get my team placement?
Teams are finalized about a week and a half before the first game of the season. You can expect to hear from your coach soon after final teams are sent out.
It's raining outside. How will I know if my game or practice is cancelled?
Games can only be cancelled by the Regional Commissioner. Games are still played unless you get an e-mail from the commissioner cancelling games. This usually only occurs if the Deerfield Park District has closed all fields due to heavy rain. Practices will also be cancelled if the park district closes all fields due to poor conditions. Team coaches may cancel practices at their discretion if needed, but not games.
Do you have a summer program?
No. We do not offer any summer programming.
Do you have a winter program?
Yes! We offer an indoor winter futsal program that runs from January through early March. This is a skills program run by P2 professional trainers, and does not have teams or games. Weekly sessions are on Sundays in the Shepard Middle School gym. Registration opens in mid-October. Since this is run inside a school gymnasium, space is limited.
Why can't I find a phone number or address for Deerfield AYSO?
Deerfield AYSO is an all-volunteer organization, so we don't have a physical address or permanent phone number. Volunteer parents organize and run the entire program, and the best way to reach members of the board is on our
contact page
.
How can I be more involved?
We are always looking for volunteer coaches and board members! Check out our
volunteer page
for details on signing up to coach. If you are interested in joining the board, and want to learn more, e-mail us at
[email protected]
or
[email protected]
.
I still have questions!
You can find our contact information
here
, and please don't hesitate to reach out. We will do our best to respond in a timely manner, but please be patient with us as we are all volunteers.
